For a long time, I wanted someone to rescue me. Like Charlie in The Chocolate Factory, I wished someone would save my family and me from the horrible circumstances that life had given us. I wanted nothing more than to win the golden ticket and get swept away in a floating elevator. However, this wishful thinking did nothing except make me feel like a powerless victim.
After years of self-victimization, I decided to take responsibility for my future, so I set some goals and made some progress. Still, unfortunately, I lacked confidence and was too afraid to step out of my comfort zone. As a result, I eventually gave up on most of my goals and started falling back into the victim role.
I had to make some changes! First, I committed to escaping my comfort zone by leaning into my fears.
Then, I developed courage by taking on progressively more demanding challenges that stretched me beyond what I knew I was capable of doing.
I prioritized learning about things that excite me and gained wisdom by applying what I learned directly. I attained power over my life by taking personal responsibility and refusing to label myself a victim.
